Aeri™: Atmospheric Turbulence Simulator

Based on the Unifi™ Deformable Mirror System, the Aeri™ Atmospheric Turbulence Simulator(ATS) is a complete unit consisting of an AgilOptics'™ deformable mirror and a specially modified Unifi high-voltage driver. Control circuitry within the driver can store a 3-D pattern representing arbitrary turbulence patterns and rapidly display the pattern on the mirror surface.

Using the Pattern Player software the user can create the desired aberrations on his or her computer and then download the pattern file to the Aeri; over a USB 2.0 cable. The ATS will then start driving the mirror to generate the specified aberrations.

  • Designed for high speed open loop control
  • 61 actuators update in 51µsec, and a 37 actuator DM will be even faster!
  • Uses USB 2.0 to download a 3-D pattern of mirror shapes.
  • Controlled in by Pattern Player software

Vacuum Canister

Improve Frequency Response of Deformable Mirrors!

Our mirrors can be placed under vacuum while operating in our compact, affordable vacuum canister. The canister can be fitted with a plano-plano window or a plano-concave weak lens/window (designed to compensate for the membrane focus at medium stroke settings). The frequency response curves can be seen in these depictions of our results for three of our most popular mirror sizes:

Negative Lens Window

A corrective lens can be strategically placed to counteract the "pull-only" nature of electrostatically-actuated deformable mirrors. Our lenses are made of BK7 with a broadband anti-reflective coating for use at wavelengths of 450nm to 650nm. This item can easily be used in place of the "window" of the AgilOptics Vacuum Canister. The typical focal lengths for our most popular mirror sizes (with lens correction) are as follows:

Mirror Lens Radius Maximum Focal Length Minimum Focal Length Mirror Focal Length
50mm -10m -9.707m 8.3890m 4.5m
50mm -5m -4.853m 61.7819m 4.5m
25mm -10m -9.707m 2.8447m 2.2m
